Trouty56 567 #1 Posted March 7, 2012 I was looking at parts and came across this crankshaft that is advertised as a Wheel Horse K301 crankshaft. Now I haven't had a whole lot of these engines apart but when I have there is a nut on the flywheel side not a bolt.....what do you think???
smoreau 658 #2 Posted March 7, 2012 It looks just like mine, I say it is correct.

Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted March 7, 2012 I can't say it's a 301 crank from the pic but I can say the later Kohlers I have and all the magnums I have, use a bolt to hold the flywheel on, not sure when they started it?
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted March 7, 2012 That's also the "fix" for older cranks with bad/broken threaded ends. Face them off close to the end of the taper and drill & tap 3/8-24 for the new-style bolt. Much cheaper than buying another crank. :handgestures-thumbup:
Trouty56 567 #6 Posted March 7, 2012 Thanks Terry...that's good to know cause I have a ruined crankshaft from me trying to get a flywheel off. You know the one....
rmaynard 16,333 #7 Posted March 7, 2012 Bob, You can tell if it's a K301 by looking at the counter-weights. K301s are flat. The picture looks as thought it is sitting on the flats.
bowtiebutler956 650 #8 Posted March 8, 2012 Just rebiult my K301 and it has a large nut on the crank, not a bolt. Matt :flags-texas:
