Well I done it now

Tinkering with that big Wisconsin monster this weekend tightening the flywheel nut, had a pry bar between the fins to hold the engine from rotating..... :text-banplz:

you can probably guess what happened next...yup busted one of the fins clean off. Said a few choice words and threw my hat at the darn thing so hard that the bill actually left a small dent in the sheet metal.

So now what do I do,

Say the heck with it and just run it unbalanced?

Break one off o the opposite side to balance it better?

Grin and bear it while I reach deep into the wallet for another one?

What do you guys think? :banghead:

Balance it off and keep looking for a new one to replace it. I know, I've done the same thing!!

Honestly that is an industrial engine it will probably run completely fine with one fin missing as those flywheels are huge, but if you want to "fix" it, I would bring the why wheel to a machine shop that deals with engines, and they should be able to balance it and shave the opposite one down and along with the one that broke. Im looking forward to this project so hurry up already! :teasing-neener:

I'm not an engine guy by any means but couldn't you weld that fin back on and then rebalance it?

Cast Iron welding is very difficult, it can be done but probably not worth it.

Anybody on this board got any old Wisconsin V4 parts laying around?

I have been looking for an excuse to convert this to electric start, which requires a different flywheel, I guess this may be it......Darn the luck :eusa-think: :handgestures-thumbupright:
