316-8 Briggs V-twin repower.

Recommended Posts

Decided to throw together an old 16HP Briggs v-twin and a rolling chassis 312-8. Worked out pretty well. Runs the 48" deck with no problem. (my wife says I need adult supervison).

Very nice! Your wife sounds like mine. To which I reply "we'll need another tractor for him."

Very nice. Did the same thing with a 14hp Vanguard, and I use it with a 48-inch deck too. Surprised the heck out of me, because it has more cutting power with a 48-inch deck than my 518-H does with an 18hp Onan and 42-inch deck. Those Vanguards appear to be pretty good engines so far.

I tried that muffler set up when I put a 16 Vanguard on my C-120. Had trouble with it foul out the front plug, Changed it to two 3/4 pipes up in to a piece of 2" tail pipe With a 90 degree bend at the end. Not near as quite but it worked.

Here is the air filter I used a couple 1/4" aluminum plates.

I first mounted the engine with two strips across the frame. Was mowing on top of a bank when the edge gave way off I went and twisted the frame enough to brake to right front corner off the engine. Had it welded back placed a soild steel plate under the engine and used it for twenty years. Was moving dirt a quarter of a mile when it deside to open up above the weld and dumped the oil. I now have a 18 HP Vanguard on it.

I like those repowers! Right on in the power department, and smooth too!

It was pretty simple. (realy didn't need to cut that air cleaner hole but wanted to try out that 6 inch hole saw, and thought it looked cool!). Thanks for all your positive comments, and thanks to all those folks that bought so many of these great machines so we can play now!

Joe
