Work Horse 700 - Kohler Engine Recoil issue

Recommended Posts

cdn97

I have a Kohler engine that is a pull start with recoil. I have the spring in, it recoils fine. The issue now is the "fins" that turn the flywheel don't come out until it recoils. What's wrong? Something is backwards, but I am not sure what. Any ideas?

look in the download area and see if the kohler rebuild manual is there, when i rebuilt my last engine i noticed the manual has a section on starters,a big area on recoils,im not sure of the manual for an engine that old but in the magnum manual there was a good section on these, you may have to download it from kohler, ive done this and its free,go to the links area and you can get to kohler from there

Are you sure it is a KOHLER?

Sounds like the spring and rope may be wound backwards...Really haven't had this problem before, so I am guessing.
