Throttle linkage thingy.....

Recommended Posts

OK, forgive my ignorance of the technical terms. I have a 87 414, and the throttle cable goes to the front left side of the engine, where it is attached to a lever mechanism. This in turn is connected via a spring to a lever on the top right (you can see it if you look down in the slot in the shroud that covers the air cleaner). This lever is connected via a small linkage wire to what appears to be the throttle behind the air filter.

The problem is that the linkage wire on the top is connected to the lever with a little plastic thing that looks like a rivet. On mine, this thing is deformed and if you nudge it the wrong way, the linkage wire will pop out of the lever arm. I have not caused it to happen while using the tractor yet, but I have only gotten it to work today, and it seems inevitable.

Any idea what this thing is, and any good replacement suggestions?

can whlvr

any kohler dealer can order them for you,i have made my own with wire,in a pinch,i would make one for it and use it till you get new plastic rivits,if you loose the wire then you have to but that too,its a bit primitive but works and gets you buy,my 2nd 414 didny have either the wire or plastic holders,i got them through the toro dealer, but he had to order them, and you need to use kohler breakdown, not wheelhorse, incase your dealer does not know this, which they should but sometimes you get a parttimer end doesnt know these things

If you've got a Magnum engine, that plastic rivet-looking thingy is actually a retainer to hold the wire in place but allows it to be removed fairly easily. Probably the part that holds the wire in got broken off at some point. It's a really inexpensive piece of plastic (nylon, I think) and should be readily available from your Toro dealer. I'll see if I can find you a part number.......

EDIT: The part is called a throttle linkage bushing. If it's the black one, the Kohler part number is 25-158-11-S. If it's the white one, it's Kohler part number 47-158-07-S. Either one only costs about a dollar. I got mine from Pat's Small Engines: http://www.psep2.biz...ts?aribrand=KOH
