Sealed versus half sealed spindle bearings

My 1990 48" mower deck (15-48SC02) has what I call half sealed bearings (sealed only on one side) at the top and bottom of the spindle. I bought some fully sealed bearings for replacement. Obviously the half sealed bearings were made so you could grease the spindle bearings. My question is, if you replace the half sealed bearings with fully sealed bearings that will never be greased, will they last? If they will, I wonder why Wheel Horse didn't use them in the first place.

You can take one side of if you want. Those sealed bearings don't have much grease in them anyway. that way you can grease your spindles every season.

An o-ring pick works nicely to remove the seal. Just don't stick it in your finger like I tend to...

Makes you say ugly words and dance around for several minutes.
