buzzerka 0 #1 Posted February 7, 2012 hi guys, I've just bought a real good low hours 16M engine to replace the 12M engine that blew up in my old 312-8, seemed easier than a rebuild and was the right $$. Plus 4 more HP never goes astray. Anyway, the M16 isn't electric start. Didn't faze me that much I figured I'd just bang the starter off the dead 12 on it, Simple as that be motoring again in no time i thought. So I pull the sheetmetal off to find NO ring gear, doh! Which brings me to a list of questions. 1. can I use the 12M flywheel or is it going to be balanced differently. 2. where would I find a ring gear, shipping a whole flywheel to aussie would be killer $$. 3. Are all the electrics, stator ect, different, or is it just a matter of adding a reg/rectifier. 4. If they are different I could just use my 12M elecy, eh? 5. Will the bearing plate off a 12M bolt straight onto a 16M, every frozen bolt snapped off, F@#& !!. If the stuff off my 12hp magnum isn't interchangable, it doesn't worry me that much because I did want to rebuild it a some stage and put it back into my 312-8. I could then replace my onan with this 16M in my 416-H, because the onan is about rooted and I aint spending 1000+ to rebuild that POS. thanks lads.
wh-jason 33 #2 Posted February 9, 2012 All the parts from the 12 should bolt right up to the 16. (null)

Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted February 9, 2012 yes it's all a bolt on, be sure if you change the bearing plate to set the crank end play with the paper shim gaskets.
