Wheel Horse Kid 105 #1 Posted February 7, 2012 Hello, I am thinking about making a 4WD Wheel Horse Tractor in the future and was just wondering if anyone has ever made a 4WD Wheel Horse tractor? If so, how did you fabricate it? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks, Taylor

Rollerman 290 #6 Posted February 7, 2012 Actually before Bob Rock rebuilt this 200 series into an articulated 4x4 tractor, he made this. It's a 200 series & he used a Noma rideing lawn mower rear axle (the made 4 wheel steer riders in the 90'ies) & fitted it on the front side for a "front assist" 4X4 tractor. Not sure how he powered it, but thats a picture of my boy driveing it when we visited Bob years ago. I'm not positive, but I believe I heard the front axle on that 854 above was the one Bob used in the 200 series pictured here.

Wheel Horse Kid 105 #11 Posted February 8, 2012 Hey guys, Thanks for all the great info! I am going to try to contact those two gentleman and see if I can get some more information on how they made their 4x4 tractors. I am starting to get an idea now of how to do, and hopefully they will be able to help me out with the areas I don't quite understand how to do yet. Hopefully, if all goes well, I can get started on this project sometime this spring/summer. I am going to try and use a 300/400/500 series Wheel Horse tractor. I have a 312-8 right now, but that is the tractor that I use for tilling and mowing, etc., so I will have to buy another tractor. I would also like to convert it to a diesel. Thanks Again, Taylor
wheelhoss 2 #12 Posted February 9, 2012 The noma steer axles don't look like the axle they are using
whlpny 203 #13 Posted February 9, 2012 Stephen is correct-I did use a Noma steer transaxle-removed from the Noma tractor myself. I tore that 264 with the front assist apart to build an articulated tractor out of it and the Noma axle was sold to Dave24 and is now in the 854.The noma axles are a Peerless unit and the newer version looks nothing like the older version I used. The older version has castiron axle housings where as the newer version is aluminum. I still like the looks of that 264- sure was a sweet driving tractor!
wheelhoss 2 #14 Posted February 10, 2012 How do you get power to the front axle
whlpny 203 #15 Posted February 10, 2012 Power to transaxle was belted off the engine clutch.
