can whlvr 994 #2 Posted February 7, 2012 sounds like a little carb adjustment needed, its the high speed needle on the top of the carb, slowly adjust and see if that helps, also check for a loose throttle shaft, they wear out and let too much air in,could need a throttle shaft rebuild kit
Sparky-(Admin) 23,219 #3 Posted February 7, 2012 I think the big issue is that after you kill the ignition the motor continues to spin a bit and any gas it sucks in gets ignited by the hot exhaust. Try running it down to an idle and after you kill the ignition, engage the PTO which will help stop the motor from turning over as much with the ignition off. Just an idea but probably not a real fix. Mike............

can whlvr 994 #5 Posted February 8, 2012 as to what sparky said is true and ive heard sometimes if an exhaust is full of crap it can heat up and have embers inside that ignite the unburned fuel too,my 414-#2 had this,i put a new cheap exhaust on and she runs great

zieg72 209 #8 Posted February 8, 2012 I don't know if this makes any sense but I have thought it may be the gas going bad, loosing octane. Seems like if mine has sat for a while it does tend to backfire some but with fresh gas it didn't backfire at all... My $.
