RJcollector 56 #1 Posted January 31, 2012 Hi does anybody know what the letters and numbers to right of the shifter on the trans mean on an RJ-58? Ive heard its a build date and the only way to tell between a 58 and a 59. Can anybody verify that and if so, how do i figure out mine? Ive also heard if the tractor serial number is less than 20,000 its a 58. Is this true? thanks a lot
VinsRJ 723 #2 Posted January 31, 2012 The casted in date code will give you the apprx time frame of production. WH was building these tractors on the go so what ever parts were on the self at the time is what went into the tractor. Post up the numbers casted in your tranny case. 20,000 to 22,000, would be an apprx total production number for the 58 and 59 model years. The date code in your tranny will narrow down time and model. The only true way to know year and model is by the original serial tag.
RJcollector 56 #3 Posted January 31, 2012 Thank you for the information. My RJ58 has the original model/serial sticker and the serial number is 7649 and the tranny casting numbers are J12-8. I also have another rj with the tranny numbers C17-1. How can I tell when they were built? Thanks a lot
VinsRJ 723 #4 Posted January 31, 2012 The letter is the month of production so J = October, 12 = the 12th of the month and 8 = 1958, October 12, 1958 As for the other tranny code... March 17th 1961. That tranny center section is not an origianl center section for an RJ. That date code is to far from the last RJ production line. It must have been replaced. The RJ center sections are known to crack over time.
