Another compatibility question, please......

Good evening, gents!

If I were to try to put a 520 forward-swept axle onto a 400-series frame, what would I need to adapt in terms of steering? Probably longer tie rods which I can fab, but does it change the steering geometry coming off the steering shaft? I know the spindles are completely different between the 300/400's and the 500's (1").

And what size is the axle pivot/mounting pin on the 500-series? 3/4" same as the 300-400 series?

Thanks much in advance for any info! :thanks:

The bolster pin and the distance between the axle mounting plates are the same.

The tie rods for the FSA use automotive-style greaseable ball joint ends and the lower steering shaft is built specifically for proper attachment of those larger ends.

You have the choice of adding to / altering the tie rod attachment plate on the non-FSA lower steering shaft, or you can search for the lss for a pre-'91 520 with the FSA.
