leeave96 490 #1 Posted January 29, 2012 Thought I'd pass along the engine oil filter I use on my 520H tractors. It is the Fram Extra Guard PH3682 This filter is long enought to stick out the engine shields, but short enough to easily fit into the space for installation. The best part is these Fram filters have a spray-on bed liner like material on the end of them, so I can tighten them and loosten without a wrench. The other best part is you can get them (at least in my neck of the woods) at Autozone and Advance Auto (haven't checked Walmart) for around $5.00. smoreau 658 #2 Posted January 29, 2012 You may want to rethink the fram filters as there is NOT a lot of filter material inside them, That is why they don't cost that much. Duke has cut many filters apart to inspect them on his 20hp onen rebuild and there is a old saying that you get what you pay for when it comes to filters. I believe that napa makes a good one from there gold line that is longer and is easier to remove. The Onen filters are about $10 from my local toro store, And thats what I use. leeave96 490 #4 Posted January 29, 2012 I realize Fram filters ain't what they use to be back in the day - but at the rate I change oil, I probably don't need to use a filter in the first place. Heck my Kohlers and Briggs engines don't have filters. Knock on wood, I've had pretty good luck with Fram where I have used them. I've got a Nissan truck that I use the Fram - just because of the easy grip end makes the oil change easier and that truck has over 200,000 miles on it and still going strong. Normally i use Purolator for everything else - just my preference. The other Bill
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted January 29, 2012 I've been using Fram filters for ever never had any issues from using them, is there better? probably, I use them on my race car I change the oil after every 2 races, I also use Mobil 1 in it, it comes out looking like new I used Fram on my truck from the day I built the engine till I stopped driving it with over 150,000 miles no problems, motor I built before that had near 200, 000 on it before I pulled it, and now use it as a back up race motor, looked very good on the inside, so I'll still run the fram filters.
