I would say they are collectible. Mine is a little different monster than yours. The only draw back with them is spending the cash on the batteries. One isn't bad but when you need to purchase 6 of them it becomes pricey. Yours is really a GE Electrac just painted red instead of yellow.

I think they are pretty cool little machine and would make a nice addition to anyone's collection.

If you need anything, just shoot me a pm and I will help you out the best I can.

seeing one at the past WH show here in PA, I was impressed with the speed and above the silence of it! Was GE the builder and then just relabeled by various companies?

The Elec Trak's were developed & produced by GE with several of the usual implements as well as some unique ones that would plug into the tractors power source like chainsaws, trimmer, drills, etc, etc.

Later Wheel Horse bought the line from GE.

Wheel Horse didn't change much other than the color, decals & seat.

They never were very popular.....to new or forward of an idea I supose.

After Wheel Horse dropped the line New Idea picked the line up & sold them to for awhile.

I don't think of them as being rare, several of the old order mennonite's around northern IN have them in my area.

What is rare is finding one that hasn't rotted into oblivion from the batteries leaking, or damage to the wireing from rodents

There actually gaining in popularity with a couple places selling reproduction electric components for them.

Scotts isn't an Elec Trak, but a true (and rare) Wheel Horse designed & built on a C series platform.

The Elec-Traks are very square & boxy looking...almost like a D series.

Elec Traks are pretty cool I think & like to have one someday....GE Wheel Horse or New Idea.

I've seen someone on craigslist asking for the GE version of one in NY, VT PA, CT, MA for the last year or two. What kind of attachments? I usually just see the mower deck attachments when they come up for sale so I would imagine the attachments are valuable.

Not a 100% sure on all of the attachments, but from what I remember there are some really unique ones. I do remember hearing there is a set of hedge trimmers that plug right in to the tractor for you to go around your house and trim what is needed.

If you go on to MTF and go to the electric tractor section, get in touch with a guy with the screen name Mr. Electrack. The guy has an amazing collection of tractors and attachments. Touch base with him and you will find out anything you would want to know about these unique machines.

Like Stephen said, mine is not an electrack but is built on a C series chassis, black hood. It has the original 8 speed transmission. Also came with a 42" side discharge mower deck outfitted with an electric motor for each spindle. It is a neat tractor, just not fun paying for 6 deep cycle batteries.

I know someone that has two of the original GE model Elec Traks and I sent him the following link that I saw yesterday after reading this posting by Dave269 about his new tractor.

The Wheel Horse purchase of the GE Elec Trak resources in 1974 and the subsequent development of a line of electric tractors is

included in the attahced informaiton.

At the end of the posting there is a listing of all the parts that Wheel Horse discontinued supplying in 1987.

I've compiled a real brief history of the G.E. Elec-Trak Garden Tractor here from the bits and pieces I've learned over the years. I am currently collaborating with Mr. Bruce Laumeister, the General Manager of the G.E. Elec-Trak program during the 1970's to write the complete, comprehensive story of these unique machines. To that end we are contacting as many of the almost 300 employees who worked for G.E. on the project as well as former dealers and original owners to include their stories and memories in the book. The target date for publishing is in the spring of 2012.

We would really welcome any additions anyone can make to the story, especially those who were there and helped design, manufacture and sell these tractors. Please email me if you have information, documents and pictures to add to this history. Your memories are more important than you think!
