WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #1 Posted January 27, 2012 Hey, guys I have an issue with my pto on the 416 hydro. When I bought this tractor the pto clutch was not on.I bought it probably about a month ago un running and I have had nothing but bad luck with it. I took it to a shop to get it running and he did get it running but it runs like crap don't know why but it does. I was going to put the pto clutch back on today and saw that the shaft is to short to even put it back on why!!!!!!! does anyone have a diagram of how to put it on.I took apart another wheel horse pto just to see and the shaft is longer. can anyone help am I missing somthing. One guy just emailed me and wants to trade for a 310-8 for mine but Im not going to give up yet. I :wub:love the 416 tractor with a vac bagger and i know you guys want pictures but my camara broke on christmas eve. very sorry about that :bow-blue:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted January 27, 2012 Do you have the inner bearing race (#40) installed over the crankshaft? How much of the crankshaft end is sticking out beyond the tractor drive pulley? Is the engine from/for a Wheel Horse?
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #3 Posted January 27, 2012 TT, I just went down into the garage and drive shaft is 1" 7/8 long.I got the belt and clutch disc with the 4 7/16 bolts on. Now just trying to figure out what is missing.Does that #40 make the shaft longer.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted January 27, 2012 You're saying that there's 1 7/8" of crankshaft sticking out past the engine pulley? If there is, that's about right. The inner bearing race (#40) normally sticks out past the end of the crankshaft.
CRE1992 135 #5 Posted January 27, 2012 I would not trade the 416H for a 310-8. IMO the 416H is more versatile. It is a hydro, with hydraulic lift, Great for plowing or just about anything, you can run a bigger deck with out problem (more power).
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #6 Posted January 27, 2012 I gotta find someone who knows about these motors. When I can I will take pics for you guys. It has the chrome hub caps, vac dual bagger, very nice seat and a clean paint job just the motor sounds terrible.I'm sure it's just the carb that needs to be cleaned or adjusted some how . TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #7 Posted January 27, 2012 I just measured the closest bearing race I could find...... It's about 2 3/8" long.
pfrederi 18,712 #8 Posted January 27, 2012 I just measured the crankshaft exposed beyond the drive pulley on my charger 12...2-3/8" Is you drive pulley mounted correctly and are we sure this is the original motor???
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #9 Posted January 27, 2012 Although it was never specified, there's no such thing as an original 416-H with anything other than an Onan. I have a P-218 upstairs in the shop but haven't made it out to measure the OAL of the crankshaft. I'm relatively sure they're a bit shorter than a BB Kohler in a WH application. Guess I need to go for a walk now. :eusa-whistle:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #10 Posted January 27, 2012 Walk's over........ The PTO end of the Onan crankshaft measures just shy of 2 3/4" long, BB Kohler is real close to 3 1/2".
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #11 Posted January 27, 2012 The engine is an onan 16 horse and all I got on it is the pulley with the belt and on the outside of the pulley is the clutch disc that takes a keyway with the 2 or 3 moon shaped pieces. Did I explain that ok.What do you guys think I'm missing. TT do you think the shaft length is wrong or do you think the bearing race will make up the difference. TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #12 Posted January 27, 2012 Crankshaft length is fine. You need the inner bearing race for the PTO pulley, (#40) and two of the retaining "clips" (#42) Parts 33 thru 39 make up the PTO pulley assembly. I assume you have the pulley and that it's not in pieces? :confusion-shrug:
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #13 Posted January 27, 2012 I have 33-39 and 42 but I don't have 40 which is the bearing race. do you know where I can get one I sent a message to kelly hoping he will have one. If you know anyone esle that may have one please let me know thanks for your time TT and others. wheel horse bill.
