rodcogroup 3 #1 Posted January 19, 2012 I have a C-161 with the K341 engine. I am cleaning things up on the engine ( tightning screws, cleaning off oil etc). I noticed that the points ( breaker) on the engine does not have a cover. Is this that important? I took the breaker off, cleaned it up and it looks ok, but I am not sure if it is worn out or not. Do I need to replace the breaker rod if I replace the breaker? Sparky-(Admin) 22,242 #3 Posted January 19, 2012 I noticed that the points ( breaker) on the engine does not have a cover. Is this that important? I Thanks Robert Sure is. It should have a cover and a gasket to keep moisture out and the spark it creates in. Remember right above the points is a rubber hose and a carb and a fuel pump full of gas and gasoline and sparks don't mix well outside the engine. Mike........... refracman 167 #5 Posted January 23, 2012 Robert, As stated above yes you need the cover & gasket. Yes replace the points( breakers) and no you don't need to replace the rod. When you go to local small engine shop to pick up the points they should have a used cover, gasket and screws. The new points are set between 16 and 20 on your feeler gauge, if you dont have a set, any car parts place will have them. You can download a manual free from Kohler for your engine at there web site, make sure to login as a visitor.
