Wheel Crazy 23 #1 Posted January 18, 2012 I recently came across an old Lawn Ranger. The guy selling it is asking $300.00 for it and it doesn't run. It has a 8 horsepower motor. Did Lawn Rangers come with 6 or 8 horsepower motors? It needs a pulley, belt, and the rear trans-axle is leaking. It also has a couple year old AG tires on it and really haven't had any use because it hasn't ran that much since they were put on. It also has a plow (looks like it came off a Cub Cadet) and not sure if it works properly or not? So what it is worth? Thanks for the help! Here is a little picture!!! whfan74 2,072 #2 Posted January 18, 2012 $125-$150 The rear tires are nice but if it doesn't run, with no seat, and missing belt guard, and who knows what else, I would say he is a little high on his price.
Indy w h 5 #3 Posted January 18, 2012 The Lawn Rangers came out factory with a 6hp Tecumseh And with all that's missing I wouldn't give much for it Indy
Wheel Crazy 23 #4 Posted January 18, 2012 Thanks for the help and advice guys! I thought the price was a little steep to! He was at $350 and I got him down to $300 over text message, so far! I will offer him $100 and see what he says! It has been on Craigslist for years!
whfan74 2,072 #5 Posted January 18, 2012 I wouldn't go much higher than that. It has been on CL for years for a reason.
Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted January 18, 2012 I've seen that many times on CL, to me top money would be $175 the plow from here looks to be correct, the tires are about $80-100 a pair if you buy it and need parts get with me, I have a few parts rangers.
Vinylguy 4,692 #7 Posted January 18, 2012 I would love to have that plow but I just invested $600 in an 85 vmax that I need to get running first. Once it sells I will be looking for a plow for next year. Those tires would look good on my 68 Ranger!!!
Ken B 3,189 #8 Posted January 18, 2012 If it has been listed for so long my gut feeling is that 100 bucks ain't gonna get it done, especially if he is the guy that paid the money for the new ag tires. You got him down to 300, chances are a new offer of 200 less won't get it done. By the time you locate the parts it needs and get it running you'll be well into it, you might be better off finding a more complete tractor. I agree with Kelly. 175 max if you really have to have it. Ya never know though. The guy may have received dozens of 100.00 offers on it over the phone. Sometimes what it takes is a buyer with cash in hand, on sight.
Kelly 1,033 #9 Posted January 18, 2012 Now another thing to take note of if you go look at it in person, see if the hood is nice, a nice straight hood with only minor issues will be worth $100+ all by it's self, it will fit many other models. so with that said I might go higher IF I needed a hood or wanted the tractor to rebuild, hoods are probably the single hardest item to find in good shape and now days for a good price, to fit any round hood. HorseDrawn 1 #10 Posted January 18, 2012 If the tractor has been left outside the transaxle could be leaking because its overfilled (with water). If you really think you want it take a clean drain pan with you and drain the rear to see what comes out. Rain lands on the shifter and runs into it.
Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted January 18, 2012 Right now in MI. nothing will come out of the trans, it's too dang cold, but that can work in your favor, trans is froze solid it won't roll, now how much?? B)
AMC RULES 37,211 #12 Posted January 18, 2012 Sometimes if just makes better sense to spend a few dollars more to get a solid, more complete tractor, in running condition from the start. On top of the purchase price, estimate the cost to piece it back together. :dunno:
Actonhorse 26 #13 Posted January 19, 2012 I have to agree with the others. My son bought one in about the same shape earlier this year for $100. The original engine would barely run, the transmission was full of water and it had no seat pan. We painted it, put in a spare 8 hp Kohler that we had around and got it driveable for not too much money but if he had to pay $300 to get it in the first place it would not have been worth it. Mind you, he didn't get a plow in the deal... :eusa-think:
Wheel Crazy 23 #14 Posted January 19, 2012 Thanks for all the input and information guys!!! I really appreciate it! I am trying to find a decent tractor (a round hood) for the right price! I think I might offer him $150-$200 or I may just hold onto my money, so I can restore my C-81 for summer shows! Kelly, do you just have that one round hood (the lawn ranger)? I think it may be worth that because like you guys said, the AG tires are expensive, the hoods are exspensive, the plow, and so on! It would probably be better in the long run to get one that was in good running condition! lol I have three tractors right now and not one of them run right!! lol At shows are there any good deals? Where are some shows in Michigan? He may be a motivated seller if I look at in person and bring the money? Idk :eusa-think:
