B-100 not starting

Recommended Posts

stevasaurus

I have had trouble with the B-100 show tractor starting since I got it. I changed out the starter solinoid, pulled the starter off of my Raider 10, and replaced a 3 year old battery with a new one. It was still hard cranking and would not start in cold weather. I was in the chat room a few nights ago, and TT stopped in. I told him about my issues with this tractor, and he said to take the ground cable off of the frame and put it under one of the bolts holding the starter to the engine block. Boomshakalaka, she started right up...cranked like it should and it looks like I will finally get to plow snow with it this winter. Now all I need is some snow!!! A HUGE THANK YOU TT. I owe you another one. :bow-blue::woohoo:

Members...do not forget about the chat room here. Every once in a while, you get someone in there that can help answer your questions and point you in the right direction...and your turn around on questions here can be much faster. Again, Thank You TT. :)

Hey, Steve, if you continue to have problems with this tractor, just let me know and I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you. I'll pay you what you paid for it, I suppose I could spring for a new battery if you insist. And unfortunately, I just recently had to get rid of my beloved truck before she self-destructed, so maybe you could drop it off at my house next summer after the show, it's only 3-4 hours out of your way. :ychain:

Kidding of course, kinda. Guys like TT will keep you on track. :handgestures-thumbup:

I guess tying the beach towel on my back and wearing red underwear on the outside of my pants all these years is finally paying off. :hide::ychain:

Seriously though, you are quite welcome, Steve. I'm happy to help when & where I can. :handgestures-thumbup:

I understand the concept of a direct ground to the starter, but the question in my mind is where were you losing ground contact? Direct metal to metal contact from the mount of the starter, and two 3/8" starter mounting bolts to the block of the engine, and then engine mounting bolt to the ground wire from the battery should be just as good. I would venture a guess that the weak link is where the ground wire meets the engine mounting bolt.

You are right Bob...I will be into that once the weather breaks this spring. It is running now, but is not over yet. I just can't really get into all that crawling around yet. Still to sore.
