Hydro 131 #1 Posted January 15, 2012 I am changing out my M14 for an M16. The M16 came from an 8 speed. My 314 is a Hydro. I need to change the drive belt pulleys as the 8 speed is 4" and the Hydro is 5". Is there anything special I need to know removing or re-seting the pulleys as I will be installing the M14 into the 8 speed and doing a pulley exchange. I was going to use a face plate type puller with a couple of 3 1/2 in x 1/4" bolts to pull into the clutch plate bolt holes. Thanks
sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted January 15, 2012 I cant tink of anything special about doing it, some slip right on off, and others are an absolute *****! Check for 2 setscrews before getting too crazy, I have come across pulleys with single set screws and others that have a second one at 90 degrees to the first. can whlvr 994 #3 Posted January 15, 2012 sometimes a wee bit of heat with the afore mentioned puller, but try it first,i dont mean enough to melt seals just to expand it if needed
Hydro 131 #4 Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks for the replies. I have the set screws out on both engines. Will two 1/4" bolts pull that pulley and is there much to reset it? Thanks
can whlvr 994 #5 Posted January 16, 2012 the 2 wil pull it,but go slow,if it feels too tight then add a wee bit of heat,a propane torch is enough, and resetting is as simple as slididng it back on,ive never needed heat to put them back on,just clean em up and on they go
Hydro 131 #6 Posted January 16, 2012 Would there be any difference in the mufflers of either engine? The 314 has the added heat guard and looks a little nicer on. I was thinking of using it. I have no way of telling if one has more or less back pressure than the other.
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted January 16, 2012 Mufflers should interchange no problem, when you slide the pulley back on just look down the belt to the trans pulley and eye ball it in line, you should be good.
