can whlvr 994 #1 Posted January 8, 2012 so i am rebuilding a m 12 kohler,got the block bored,crank turned,main bearing in and i must have misplaced the thrust washer that goes behind the governor gear :banghead: can any one tell where to get one,would auto supply stores have them,it takes a month to get anything for kohler up here,im so pi--ed off at myself,i wanted to have this done tomorow,but not now i guess Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted January 8, 2012 I've never had a Magnum apart, or a big block K either, so I'm guessing here. If it is the same as a small block K series, it will be a small hardened thrust washer. Maybe someone here has an engine in pieces that could provide some dimensions. You could probably work out what you need by installing the cam (obviously without the wishing thrust washer!!) and measuring the cam endfloat, Then you can subtract the amount of endfloat you should have (from the Kohler manual) and that will give you a thickness for your thrust washer. You might be able to purchase a hardened washer from a bearing supply house, or whatever the Canadian version of McMaster Carr is. In the meantime I will look at some parts diagrams and see if your missing washer happens to be the same as the small block washer. If it is I could give you dimensions or maybe drop one in the post to you. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

can whlvr 994 #7 Posted January 8, 2012 never heard of parry auto,i will look them up,does anyone know if this washer is flat,or does it have a cone shape,i know if its cone shaped its not much,im hoping its flat so i can find one instead of ordering,i feel so stupid,i know of this washer from the first rebuild i did,and almost lost it,but for the life of me i thought i put it with the gear,i labled everything,kept things organized and still lost this washer,coulnt be a part that wasnt important,had to be something from the start Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

can whlvr 994 #10 Posted January 8, 2012 so i found the washer in my scrap metal pile,i musta threw it out when i did a big clean up over the holidays got the cam in,crank in,bearing plate and started to put the rings on and snapped one of the oil rings :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ,so now ill have to order some from the guy i got the stuff from,that should take 3 weeks if im lucky,i guess this tractor wont get sold too soon now Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

can whlvr 994 #13 Posted January 13, 2012 thanks jim,they are in the shop and its cool in there when im not there,thus the rings were cold, just playing around, beside the window,i was playing with the piston today and broke the broken ring again im going to warm the next ones and be careful,i ordered the new ones,30 bucks with shipping,i really didnt need thatextra cost,she would have been on the tractor and the tractor for sale by now Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

(it's been a while) Warm rings are definitely a good idea, but they should never be twisted on to a piston.
