C161 resto mod

Hi folks,

I thought I would post some pictures of the 161 as I restored it a couple years ago. I was not a Red Square member when I did the resto so I never realized how important it was to take a lot of detailed photos. Judging from other posts i've read i should have taken a lot more pics. Never really thought there were so many people interested in the hobby. I am really glad I stumbled on such a helpful and friendly group of enthusiasts’. I hope you guys enjoy this post as much as i enjoyed the build.

This first picture is the only one I have of the 161 before i started the resto. I actually bought the tractor because I needed a deck for my C145 that was given to me from a friend who had no use for it. The 161 came with a 42" sd deck, a yard cart, single stage snow thrower and snow/dirt blade. When I got the 161 it was in non running condition however the motor turned over. After careful inspection I found a bad starter, old cracked fuel lines, bad fuel pump, completely shot carbuerator and section 8 mouse housing!!!! This picture was taken after I fixed all that and it had done the snow removal duties for the prior winter.

Next came the teardown.

She's dooing such a good job...I wouldn't even think about kicking that stick!!!!!

While Cheryl's cleaning the frame it's motor time for me

Heres where I wish I would have taken more pictures. The motor got a good cleaning and a valve job. The bore and rings were well within tolerances (could still see the cross hatch pattern in the bore) so I left them alone. Here it is with a fresh coat of Hi Temp gray primer(rattlecan).

IMG_0346.jpg

Some Hi Temp Red engine block paint (also rattlecan)

Motor back together and ready to reinstall on the frame. Complete with high performance chrome air cleaner!!!!! Its going to go real fast with that on it!!!!

The hood was in rough shape. You cant really tell in the dissambly pictures but the PO must have hit a lot of stuff with it. I tried to straighten out the slats in the middle but they were beyond repair. So I decided to do a little customization to it.The headlights are old Police car spotlights. Not very battery friendly but man are they bright!!!!!

Cheryl!!!!!! You got that Frame painted yet???????
