WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #1 Posted January 6, 2012 Hey, guys I just came across a 604 with mowerdeck and snow blower. Should I trade for a snow plow, wheel weights, and chains for the 604. It runs but didn't see it in person. How are the 604's and does anyone have a hood they want to sell me.I know it really needs a hood pretty bad and the motor that is on the tractor is it original 6 horse kohler pull start. If any one has pictures of that style i would love to see them thanks guys. Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted January 6, 2012 Not sure on the trade deal with out seeing the stuff, but the 604 would have came with a pull start Tecumseh 6hp, not a Kohler.
squonk 43,939 #3 Posted January 6, 2012 My old 604 had the yank and yank Tecky. In fact it had 4 of them! I mowed many acres and plowed lots of snow with it. It's pictured in my avatar.
Ken B 3,189 #4 Posted January 6, 2012 Of course Kelly is right. I had a 604 that had a roached Techy on it so I put a pull start 7hp Kohler on it. That tractor would push its guts out! Here is a pic and video link of it busy at work.
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #5 Posted January 6, 2012 Sorry guys I just emailed this guy back and told him to email a picture of the engine and carb. You guys are right it is a tec. how are those engines any good or stay away.
squonk 43,939 #6 Posted January 6, 2012 I personally don't like Teckys. But I ran the crap out of them as a kid. I think the carbs are the worst part of them.
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted January 7, 2012 They can be good engines but if your not good with tinkering with engines steer clear, or swap the engine for a easier to deal with Kohler.
WHEEL HORSE BILL 7 #8 Posted January 7, 2012 I have an 8 horse kohler k181 will that fit in the future if need be.
Kelly 1,033 #9 Posted January 7, 2012 For that style tractor it will have to be a pull start Kohler or the newer gear drive starter and a small ATV style batt. used, the old starter gen. set up will not fit in there.
