What's it worth? 953

Recommended Posts

In a package deal I bought an old Bolens and a 1054 this week. More than likely the 1054 is going directly to another club member - maybe as a partial barter deal - maybe just covering my expenses - we'll see. It's a nice machine and runs amazing.

Well, while I was there talking to the guy, I mentioned that I once had a decent 953 and always liked the looks of these tractors. So, he says, yeah I have a 953 too. It's in the barn out back. Do you want to see it? Do bears s___ in the woods?

It's a running, driving machine, fully functional hydro with no leaks, original seat, shifts mint, headlight works........but an oooookkkkkkk paint job. The rubber is the original BFG's and are not dry cracked at all. He says it "needs nothing". He said he was going to maybe plow with it a few times this winter just to keep it moving. The plow does not go with it. He won't give me a price. He said make me an offer. I don't like to negotiate without cash in my pocket, so I said I'd keep it in mind but would pass for now. The reality is, I sincerely have no idea what it's worth. So, between not having cash in my pocket and needing to do my homework, here I am. Can you guys help me out? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I am gonna take a shot at this and say roughly between $350 to $450. Now of course you know the ol' saying the cheaper the better! Does it have the Ross steering box? How tight is the front end? It looks pretty straight as far as the sheetmetal goes. I think I am in the ballpark but lets see what the other guys have to say. Its only my opinion.

It has the original headlights which I believe are very hard to find. It is missing the pto set up. I am not a guy to help with value as I have never been a 1054/953 lover and have never owned one. I have to say you are still finding them tho-

He's now asking $1100 for it - its on ebay. Its worth what you'd pay for it, me, $600 high end, $800 if I had to have it. But I like John's numbers better.

Strange....that looks like the one I had a few years ago & repainted?

If it is your being to kind saying it's an "Okay paint job".

I have no idea on the value....only after the two I've had I wouldn't have another. :hide:

Look at that! Trust me - having looked it over in person - it's solid and a good "foundation" for a nice resto, but not anywhere near $1100 IMO.

I know you like them nice originals Matt. That paint job just being ooookkkkkkk would bother me and I know it would soon bother you. If that seat is the original one it almost seems like the original paint should have been pretty nice as well? I would have thought 500 max.

I've seen the glass head lights alone go for $100 a set. The grill is often missing and I saw one sell for $50. The seat looks original and most are torn up. I think here in the Northeast it's value is somewhere between $500 and $650 if the PTO was there. Without the PTO I would say $500 max. The parts to replace it will probably cost you over $100. Again it's all up to the buyer's perception and how bad he really wants it.
