eibbed 63 #1 Posted January 3, 2012 I picked up an 867 New Years Eve. It doesn't have a belt guard and the steering wheel is not original. It also hasn't been started in 6 or 7 years. I haven't got it running yet, but the 6 speed shifts smoothly and the K181 has good compression and spark. Does anyone have an 867 belt guard or know what belt guards, if any, can be substituted? Thanks, Dave

eibbed 63 #4 Posted January 14, 2012 Hi tunahead72, Since you asked, here's the scoop on my getting it running. As TT and a few other members know, I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to the carburetors and the engines on these great tractors. However, last week, while the weather was nice, I drained all of the old gas, installed a new fuel tank shut off valve, fuel line, and fuel line filter. I cleaned the carburetor and installed a new kit in it. I also installed a good battery. It wouldn't start. I tried again the next day, and no luck. The third day I was cleaning up in the garage and thought I would hit the key just for the heck of it. I honestly wasn't expecting anything to happen, and It fired right up, purred like a kitten, and didn't have any smoke, or strange noises. It has started right up every day since. The choke however is all the way closed and the engine wants to quit when I try to open it. I am open to any suggestions. Dave
tunahead72 2,553 #5 Posted January 14, 2012 The choke however is all the way closed and the engine wants to quit when I try to open it. I am open to any suggestions. Assuming the choke cable and linkage is set up properly, and the butterfly is operating as it should, you may just need a minor carb adjustment. If you have a Kohler carb, you'll have two fuel needles, the main fuel on top of the carb and the idle fuel on the left side. With the engine off, turn them both clockwise until they bottom lightly, then back them out to their initial settings (main fuel 2 turns, idle fuel 1-1/4 turns). Start the engine and let it warm up for a few minutes, and see if it runs better without having to keep the choke closed. You can adjust from those initial settings if it's not quite right. The procedure is described in more detail in the Kohler owner's manual: If you have a Walbro carb, the procedure is slightly different, but it's also described in the manual. can whlvr 994 #7 Posted January 28, 2012 some times these fuel pumps are hard to prime, ive had to take some off and put one end of the inlet pipe in a container of gas and pump the pump manually to get it full of fuel then put it back on the machine, sounds strange but its what workrd for me a few times
