BPjunk 184 #51 Posted August 1, 2008 TO ALL WHEEL HORSE DEALERS: we have beenable to procure about 300 wheel horse tractors built for a "MAY DAZE" fast moving cleanup sale. This is the part that is still a mystery .... why was the model 754 built? A off beat tractor model with only 421 of them produced .... just to scare off the sales competition, this just does not seem likely as the numbers are too small. A reduced price model will sell and if you need to sell an allotment of "oddball goods" price them accordingly. I was told of a shortage of the Kohler K-181 engines and the K-161's were sold in their place on the 854, with the horse power change the tractor model had to be changed also to keep it honest. Keep in mind that this notice comes from RECO (Raido Equipment Company) which is Indiana's distributor for Wheel Horse and not from the Wheel Horse Company. This peice of literture is extremly rare and we are Thankfull that it was shared. Wild Bill in Richmond, Va.

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #55 Posted April 20, 2009 No need to apologize, Erik. All this recent talk of 754's made me remember this post and I dug it up in hopes you'd see it and respond. There are a few of us who'd really like to see that RECO document and perhaps we'd even be able to solve the 754 mystery. :omg:
Eriks Red horse herd 120 #56 Posted April 27, 2009 Yea! trying to figure out how to get my down load on here. My wife( computer genuis) went to work and left me trying to get this uploaded. Well get it some how?
bo dawg 518 #57 Posted April 27, 2009 This has been one interesting post I was never a history guy in school but this kind of history is neat. Even though I never had or was interested in any 753's and 4's and 854's etc.... I find myself wanting to dig one of them up. Very interested in seeing that document myself

wheel horse 1045 2 #60 Posted April 28, 2009 so does that mean there was only 300 754?
Michael Bullington 5 #61 Posted April 28, 2009 Wow great stuff.... Im printing this and putting this with my paperwork!....Thanks!! Just my Opinion and what I consider the REAL DEAL.. Being an owner of a 754 one Note I would like to add about the 754....I think to be an authunic 754 the tractor should carry the serial number thats close to the 48000 numbers like so many of the members here have..(unless someone can prove me different). I have seen aleast 10 with numbers in this range. In my opionon if the tractor does not have the serial number I would question if its the real deal or not for a purchase...I seen a few pictures of these tractors with reproduction belt guard decals that dont even look close. Its real easy to take an 854 and put a 7 hp engine on it and change the decal. My 754 needs painting but I will be painting around the original Serial decal and the belt cover decal, this is the best way to preserve its originality or leave it rusty as it is. It sure seems like more the 421 where made!!
Drydock 3 #62 Posted April 28, 2009 I'd suspect, like many here, WH made these up to get rid of excess inventory, then shopped them around to the different distributors as a "Special" with RECO ponying up for 300 of the 421.
