jachady 130 #1 Posted December 31, 2011 So Thursday I was browsing through Craigslist and came across a Charger 10 with the Techy motor. I have one that looks just like it already, rust in the same spots and all. I brushed it off and did some work, but after awhile I had to take another look at it. I pulled the picture back up and thought, why not give this guy a call. I call him up and I'm the first guy interested in it. He got it from an auction but had it running this summer. He mentioned a couple of the issues it had, like the motion lever being loose. So I tell him I'll come look at it the next day. I get to his place and he's got the tractor out front. He connects the battery and fires it right up. Then he mentions that he adjusted the motion control lever and cleaned the carb for me. I didn't even think twice and loaded it into my truck. I even paid him more than he was asking since he set it up for me. I got it home and unloaded it and noticed that all four tires are Wheel Horse lettered tires and the treads are in great shape, they do have some weather cracks but hold air. This is going to be the one for my son. Eventually it will come apart for a repaint.
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted December 31, 2011 Is that a 69? and is the seat orig.? if it's nice take care of the seat they are very hard to find in good shape, and worth a pretty penny, looks like a nice find.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #3 Posted December 31, 2011 OK.You're seariously ill.First step in your treatment is to have someone tape all your fingers together so you can't get on Craigslist or any other demon website that may have a Wheel Horse for sale. All kidding aside, have fun with your new toy and have a Happy New Year. baerpath 517 #8 Posted January 1, 2012 what style of seat is it and what makes it so rare? Thats simple I need one for my wife's 69 GT14 If it's a 69 it would be a fiberglass seat rather than metal. We have been looking for one to finish her's off. Duane
Sparky-(Admin) 23,277 #9 Posted January 1, 2012 Is it just fiberglass or is there supposed to be a cover over it? Cant tell in the pics. Mike.........
baerpath 517 #10 Posted January 1, 2012 Yup it has a cover there are two different covers one has squares in the cover and the other doesn't. I'd trade a perfect two peice set for a fiberglass with the sqares for Marylou's GT14. Duane
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,541 #11 Posted January 1, 2012 I would give the "oil rubbed" method a try on that one. It look really clean. Paint the rims and tires and call it a day.
jachady 130 #12 Posted January 1, 2012 So after going out in the cold. It is a Model # 1-7041 Serial # 546979. I'm not sure what year that makes it. The seat pan is definitely fiberglass and looks to be in good shape, no cracks visible. The cover has "squares" molded on the seat bottom and the Wheel Horse logo in the back. In the picture you can see some duct tape on the seat, its covering a good sized crack, theres also a burn mark in it. Again my plan is to have this one for my son. Repainting sounded good in my first post, but now I think I'll try the oil rub technique.

Ken B 3,189 #14 Posted January 1, 2012 Looks like a real nice original. The oil rub down method might be all it needs but I'd at least use new oil. Used oil smells and has contaminants in it.

jachady 130 #17 Posted January 3, 2012 So the story gets better. I pulled the tractor out of the shed today to take some better pictures. While I had some room, I took a better look at the other Charger 10 I've got. It's a 69 as well, Model # 1-7041 Serial # 546984. These two were almost built next to each other on the assembly line. Now they sit together in my shed. One of these days I'll get pics of the pair.
jachady 130 #18 Posted January 5, 2012 Here's a better picture fo the tractor. I'll take another some day after I clean it up.
