mattd860 162 #1 Posted December 20, 2011 I need to replace the two main auger bearings on a 44" 2-stage blower. After I unbolt the bearings on either side of the auger, does the whole auger/differential assembly just pull out off the center shaft? By center shaft, I mean the shaft that holds the inner 2nd stage auger. Do I need to unbolt the differential between the main auger or anything? Also - does anyone have a good part # for sheer pins? According to www.shoptoro.com, the sheer pins for the 44" blower have been discontinued.
mattd860 162 #2 Posted December 21, 2011 Nevermind. I realized all I needed to do was remove the side plates to expose the bearings.
sgtsampay 117 #3 Posted December 22, 2011 Correct. The side panels pull off and then you pull the two augers off the shaft out the side. Then you have the gearbox with a shaft left and the impeller. Also, if you had to replaced the two side bearing, you may want to check the impeller bearing. Now is the time to replace it. Its a little tricky to replace but not super bad. Also, at the very least, I would make sure it has a few squirts of grease just to be safe.
mattd860 162 #4 Posted December 29, 2011 I received the new bearings in the mail today. Do they need to be greased? The inner bearings came coated with some very thin lubrication but it doesn't seem sufficient to me.
