Will G 3 #1 Posted December 14, 2011 I finally got my C-111 with 11 hp Briggs charging but the ammeter seems to not be functioning. Can the gauge be bad and it be charging at the same time?
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #2 Posted December 14, 2011 If I'm remembering correctly, the alternator output on that engine is only about 1.5 to 3 amps, which is very hard to see on a gauge - even if it's a "10-0-10" gauge.
Will G 3 #3 Posted December 14, 2011 The gauge doesn't even move when I start it, and yes, the alternator output on the Briggs dual circuit alternator is only 2-4 amps. My particular gauge is a 20-0-
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #4 Posted December 15, 2011 It's highly possible that the movement (needle) is stuck - and yes, current can still pass through a gauge in that condition.
Will G 3 #5 Posted December 16, 2011 I tested the gauge and I have continuity thru the gauge but the needle is stuck. I was able to order a replacement 15-0-15 one thru the local small engine shop.
