c161rat 185 #1 Posted December 14, 2011 My c145 is starting to have saggy wheel syndrome and i just pulled the front grease cups off and found cotter pins in it. I am wondering if the PO drilled the axles to install these pins or was this stock on this tractor. Seems like alot of work to save 5 bucks for a couple retainer clips. Either way i can see new front berrings in my future and possibly even new rims......should of caught this sooner!!!!!
rmaynard 16,363 #2 Posted December 14, 2011 What year is your C-145? The 1984's had cotter pins in the axles.
c161rat 185 #3 Posted December 14, 2011 I never really pinned down the year but it could be around 84....If i give you the serial number could you tell me for sure???
ol550 830 #4 Posted December 14, 2011 If It had snap ring grooves the may be damaged due to the bad bearings.
c161rat 185 #5 Posted December 14, 2011 Upon further inspection i don't have a snap ring groove so my tractor must be an 84.......I am however probably gonna need two new front rims  Funny i didn't notice this all season but i suspect running the snow blower last winter(very heavy) aided in the bearing failure.......goin with the blade this year!!!!! Easier to lift!!!
rmaynard 16,363 #6 Posted December 14, 2011 If you find the serial number, you will also find the model ID. If it is a 1984 automatic, the ID is 11-14KE01. 11 indicates 1984, 14 is the HP, K is for Kohler, E is for Eaton transmission, 01 is the parts list. Are the rims actually damaged? I would try to find some heavy duty bearings. Seems to be a lot of cheap junk bearings out there today.

It is an 8 speed and i know that it's from the 80's and it does have an 8hp Kohler. As far as rim damage the bearing seats appear to be elongated to me.....I might be able to press an oversized bearing in them but wouldn't know where to begin to look for a set...... rmaynard 16,363 #8 Posted December 14, 2011 Did you look on the fender pan under the seat? 8-Speed you say. Hmm, sounds like you may have a 1981 with newer spindles.

Looked in all the usuall places.....nothing under the seat or on the Firewall???? next to the voltage regulator.....all i have is the model # of the motor k321as and spec#60362d. I am fairly confident that the motor is original as the PO was the original and told me so....
can whlvr 994 #10 Posted December 14, 2011 ya unless you know the exact history of the machine you cant determine the year by that,i have spindles from 75c120 on my 308,because it had 6 inch rims and i put 8 inch so i needed the shorter spindles, just a thought,
rmaynard 16,363 #11 Posted December 15, 2011 That engine spec number was found on the 1980 C-145 8-speed. Looks like you have replacement spindles.
