steamfitter 0 #1 Posted December 11, 2011 I have a question Is a 314 8 magnum 14hp have the same hp, torque as an older say 414 8 the rpms do not feel the same thanks guys
can whlvr 994 #2 Posted December 11, 2011 im not an expert but when you rebuild one the only difference is a gasket that covers the cam gear, piston, rings, rod etc are the same,i think they may have moved the spark plug hole to get better ignition but i dont think there would be that much difference
Hydro 131 #3 Posted December 11, 2011 I think the biggest difference will be in carburation. The Magnum will likely have a walboro carb, possibly with a fixed high speed jet. The 414 probably likely has a Kohler carb. The kohler carb will make a big difference in the way the engine runs. Much better.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,541 #4 Posted December 11, 2011 Actually Steamfitter you have a newer command motor. I think you want to know the difference between the command vs the K series.
steamfitter 0 #5 Posted December 11, 2011 You are correct steve Thank you It seems that the magnum does not rev as high maybe just me
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,541 #6 Posted December 11, 2011 It is a slight step up from a verticle shaft... just kidding "dad"
tunahead72 2,553 #7 Posted December 12, 2011 Have you tried hooking up a tach to check the RPMs? You may just need a governor or throttle cable adjustment.
steamfitter 0 #8 Posted December 12, 2011 no i have not but im wondering if its a carb adjustment thanks
CRAZY4WHEELHORSES 0 #9 Posted December 12, 2011 There is no difference (between the Magnum and K series if thats what you got?) other than the solid state ignition and carb set up(fixed jet as mentioned before),and the covers of course but I would check your RPMs and make sure there @ 3600 (MAXIMUM) WOT(thats from the K series and Magnum manuals) for stock but you can take them to 4000 safely from my experience and I wouldnt go no more than that without scatter shields,BE CAREFUL! but you can run them there for more power, and they seem to hold it fine just so ya know... hope this helps ya out! TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #12 Posted December 12, 2011 Actually Steamfitter you have a newer command motor. I think you want to know the difference between the command vs the K series. So it is actually a CH-14 Command? :confusion-shrug:
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,541 #13 Posted December 13, 2011 It is a command ( I believe). It is on a 1998 314-8 he got from Truckin88 here on the forum.
BOWTIE 226 #14 Posted December 13, 2011 HELLO. I HAVE A 1999 314-8 WITH THE CH14. I WAS USE TO A K341 16 HORSE. I CHECKED MY CH14 WITH RPM HAND HELD GAUGE AND WAS SET AT 3300 RPM AND K341 WAS AT 3200. BOTH TRACTORS ARE AT FACTORY SETTINGS. (NEVER TOUCH). THE K SERIES SOUNDS FASTER BUT ITS NOT. I THINK IT IS THE OVERHEAD VALVES AND MUFFLER MAKING IT SOUND SLOWER. IT SURE DOES HAVE THE POWER OF THE K MOTOR. BOWTIE IN OHIO
CRAZY4WHEELHORSES 0 #15 Posted December 13, 2011 There are variations in the settings from factory, so it is possible to have a motor operating under Hp rating if RPMs are set low, 3600 RPMs is your MAXIMUM setting on all 3 motors mentioned...... K series, Magnum, and CH-14, NOTE : the CH-14 has been known to exceed 14hp at 3600RPMs in tests from The Society of Automotive Engineers Small Engine Test Code, (out of my factory CH-14 manual) 3600 (MAXIMUM) RPMs = 14+hp, so there ya have it Steamfitter....set that dude and let her eat! lol...
