im not an expert but when you rebuild one the only difference is a gasket that covers the cam gear, piston, rings, rod etc are the same,i think they may have moved the spark plug hole to get better ignition but i dont think there would be that much difference

I think the biggest difference will be in carburation. The Magnum will likely have a walboro carb, possibly with a fixed high speed jet. The 414 probably likely has a Kohler carb. The kohler carb will make a big difference in the way the engine runs. Much better.

Actually Steamfitter you have a newer command motor. I think you want to know the difference between the command vs the K series.

Have you tried hooking up a tach to check the RPMs? You may just need a governor or throttle cable adjustment.

There is no difference (between the Magnum and K series if thats what you got?) other than the solid state ignition and carb set up(fixed jet as mentioned before),and the covers of course but I would check your RPMs and make sure there @ 3600 (MAXIMUM) WOT(thats from the K series and Magnum manuals) for stock but you can take them to 4000 safely from my experience and I wouldnt go no more than that without scatter shields,BE CAREFUL! but you can run them there for more power, and they seem to hold it fine just so ya know... hope this helps ya out! Later! IMA LOVIN THE FORUM! YEE-HAW!!

BOWTIE

HELLO. I HAVE A 1999 314-8 WITH THE CH14. I WAS USE TO A K341 16 HORSE. I CHECKED MY CH14 WITH RPM HAND HELD GAUGE AND WAS SET AT 3300 RPM AND K341 WAS AT 3200. BOTH TRACTORS ARE AT FACTORY SETTINGS. (NEVER TOUCH). THE K SERIES SOUNDS FASTER BUT ITS NOT. I THINK IT IS THE OVERHEAD VALVES AND MUFFLER MAKING IT SOUND SLOWER. IT SURE DOES HAVE THE POWER OF THE K MOTOR. BOWTIE IN OHIO

There are variations in the settings from factory, so it is possible to have a motor operating under Hp rating if RPMs are set low, 3600 RPMs is your MAXIMUM setting on all 3 motors mentioned...... K series, Magnum, and CH-14, NOTE : the CH-14 has been known to exceed 14hp at 3600RPMs in tests from The Society of Automotive Engineers Small Engine Test Code, (out of my factory CH-14 manual) 3600 (MAXIMUM) RPMs = 14+hp, so there ya have it Steamfitter....set that dude and let her eat! lol...
