coldone 35 #3 Posted December 6, 2011 I had one on a sears suburban, it was an impressive engine. With loaded tires and 2 sets of wheel weights, It would break traction before bogging down. It would smoke like a frieght train if it had been sitting for a while, then it would clear up. The HH120 came with two types of ignition, one is the dreaded SSI (Solid State Ignition) and the other was a standard breaker style. The SSI is NLA, but Ed Stoller has a website dedicated to converting this over to a modern ignition system. He also will repair your SSI if its repairable. Just google his name and it should come up. fourwheels0 191 #4 Posted December 6, 2011 hhmm ok thanks. i'm looking at a c-120 special with this techy hh120 engine. i should be able to just drop a 12hp kohler in it correct?. is there any difference in the electrical system on the tractor besides the engine? like is a c-120 with a kohler the same as a c-120 special with the techy?. just a different engine right?. rwilson 128 #5 Posted December 8, 2011 I bought a C-120 Special and the SSI was bad. My dad searched through "Brian millers tips and tricks" and found an alternative to get spark back to it with a Chrysler ignition system. I think I spent about 20 bucks at a local junk yard and found everything needed to do the job. it works great. I wouldn't be afraid of the tecumseh. Its not a Kohler but it does a fine job. I actualy pulled the HH120 out of the tractor and replaced it with a K301, and then put the HH120 back in it.
