71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted December 5, 2011 So I knew in the back of my mind, that I would be needing to do something with the muffler on my Bronco 14. The one that is on it is rusty, and obviously not the correct one. I originally wanted to do a stack of some kind, but was a little iffy on the looks of it on this particular style tractor. I mean, it will definitely look better then whats on it now, but due to low-flying trees in my yard, I am thinking it may not be a good idea. So I jumped onto parts tree to find the correct muffler. For some reason, the '71 Bronco 14 brings up nothing, so I have to use the '72 Bronco 14 stuff (which from what I gather is mostly the same). I came up with Part Number 102258 for the "Muffler Assembly". Great, now I have a part number to look up for the muffler. Well, Parts Tree shows it available.... for a whooping $152.29! So I did a quick Google search to see if I could find it cheaper, and the lease expensive place I found was still roughly 120 bucks, but not in stock. Jeeze, the aftermarket custom stack is lookin' good right now. So here's my delema. Try to find a muffler for cheaper (prolly gotta find a used one then) or make a custom stack for the tractor. What do you guys think? Is there any places you can suggest that might have one? Thanks
can whlvr 994 #2 Posted December 5, 2011 well raider i really like the looks and sound of a stack, but i ripped one off this summer and broke the elbow that threads into the block,so if you are going to use her near trees, dont do a stack
tunahead72 2,536 #3 Posted December 5, 2011 For a new muffler, try the "Wheel Horse Links" at the top of this forum for a list of online parts suppliers. Their prices may not be any better than what you've already seen, but it might be worth a look. Some of them also supply aftermarket parts that might be cheaper than genuine Toro. Did you try the Vendors section here? Or put an ad in the Classifieds section? Or eBay? Another thought -- I wonder if NAPA or Tractor Supply might have something generic that would work for you? I'd worry about a custom stack also, for the reasons you and Don have pointed out, although somebody here recently posted some photos of his Cherry Bomb exhaust that I thought was REALLY cool looking, no idea how expensive though. Good luck!
