Wheelamatic 2 #1 Posted December 4, 2011 Are the new choke cables that are being sold the same as the originals? I need a 5170 cable for an 875 that I am going to restore. The only things I am concerned about are the size of the "C" print, knob size and the bezel design. Thanks
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted December 4, 2011 They are very close, but I've had issues withe the knobs coming loose on the shaft on the locking throttle one, when you turn the knob it spins on the shaft, I pulled them and JB welded them so far so good, but for $40 worth of cables I should not have to do that after a weeks use, then one tractor I let set outside for a few weeks the cables were about froze up I had to oil the crap out of them, todays cheap crap, I'm going to start hanging on to my good old cables and not sell them. Wheelamatic 2 #3 Posted December 5, 2011 Thanks Kelly My throttle cable is in great shape but the choke cable has been broken midways for over a decade....
tunahead72 2,553 #4 Posted December 5, 2011 My throttle cable is in great shape but the choke cable has been broken midways for over a decade.... Does your choke cable work at all at this point? You may be able to disconnect it completely and operate the choke mechanism manually at the carb. A little inconvenient, but it works, and it might buy you some time until you find a replacement that suits you.

Time is no issue lol I did unhook it years ago and just choked it at the carb but now I'm finally going to fix it as I restore it.
KC9KAS 4,744 #6 Posted December 5, 2011 You may be able to use the original piece less the coiled cable & wire. Just remove the outer coil and wire from a new Rural King/Tractor Supply cable and affix it to the old choke cable control.....Or am I missing something here? Wheelamatic 2 #7 Posted December 6, 2011 Yeah I thought about that and may try it. The outer housing was no problem to remove, it just threaded out. The inner cable is another story, it is crimped and looks to be silver soldered as well.
