wingrider 21 #1 Posted December 4, 2011 I brought this up awhile back, I have a 8 horse Kolher in a B 80 that the shaft that holds the cam in is sticking out of the Pulley side of the motor. Today I took off the carb and fuel pump and the blower housing, while looking inside the motor thru the fuel pump hole everything looked normal, so my Question is what is suppose to hold the 3/8" shaft inside the motor. It has got to have something that will keep it from sliding out the right side of the block. I looked thru the parts manual and could not see anything that should do this, what am I missing? MaineDad 87 #2 Posted December 4, 2011 From what I know, the cam pin should be flush with the block on the pto side. You should be able to drive it in back flush. There is nothing holding it in, my guess is that who ever re-installed the cam drove it in too far. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rmaynard 16,333 #3 Posted December 4, 2011 If you read the service manual, the pin is only supposed to be driven out of the block by tapping it from the PTO side, never the opposite. The hole on the PTO side is slightly smaller and holds the pin tight when it is driven in from the flywheel side. The cam rotates on the pin. I think that you stated in a previous post that the pin is also turning. The pin is never supposed to turn by itself. As long as the pin and cam are not damaged, you may be able to have a machine shop weld the hole and re-drill it to the proper diameter so as to be able to hold the pin captive. MalMac 1,332 #4 Posted December 4, 2011 Possibly having the cam pin knurled then pressed or tapped in, but this maybe a one time shot I don't know. Knurling is a way to enlarge things for press fits. It's just an Idea worth looking into. On second thought was wondering if the cam pin is too hard to knurl? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Jim_M 179 #5 Posted December 4, 2011 The cam pin is way too hard to knurl. Try tapping it back in, see if it ends up flush (or close) with the block. If it does and it stays there, you're done. If not, buy some Loctite bearing retainer, clean everything up good, apply retainer, tap the cam pin back in, give it a couple of days and you're done. wingrider 21 #6 Posted December 5, 2011 It was turning the first time that I saw it sticking out of the block. When I got it pushed back in it went in about 3/4" and stopped there. I will try turning the motor over by hand tomorrow, and see if the pin turns also when its all the way back into its proper place. Maybe some Locktite to hold it in.
