nyquil junkie 225 #2 Posted December 3, 2011 Jump start it and see if the gen is actually charging. Would be step one for me.
nylyon-(Admin) 8,114 #3 Posted December 3, 2011 You should also invest in an inexpensive multi-meter. You can often get them at Sears for $10. This will allow you to see voltage changes while the tractor is running.
Paul D. 26 #4 Posted December 5, 2011 I had a similar problem with mine and it ended up being a loose connection. When it was running it was only getting about 12 volts on the meter. If its truly charging the system it will read in the 14 volt range
Paul D. 26 #5 Posted December 5, 2011 Guess I should specify. The loose connection was at the regulator. Just wiggled it and it seemed to fix the problem so disconnected it and cleaned it off with a wire brush. No problems sense.
rmaynard 16,404 #6 Posted December 6, 2011 First rule of electrical troubleshooting on a Wheel Horse - check all of your grounds.
coldone 35 #7 Posted December 6, 2011 First thing is to get the electrical schematic. Get it cranked and see if the regulator is putting out 14 volts DC.
