meadowfield 2,756 #6 Posted November 20, 2011 the neat part about it is I didn't need to bid ! :dunno:
meadowfield 2,756 #7 Posted November 20, 2011 Neil, you were half right... my ipad lost the plot momentarily and I lost out on the GT14, however a day later I got the customary email... 'second chance offer' Appears the winning bidder was not impressed when they turned up to collect a tractor that 'was a runner, but needed some tlc' I ignored the mail for a day and phoned the seller directly offering them considerably less than I had bid and was prepared to pay. Result = I collected it this morning. Its a 1972 GT14 - US model built in south bend. It's all original, the drive belt snapped 20 years ago and it's been sat in the back of a shed since. Tinwork is in very good fettle, plastic around the drive and lift levers is broken. Dash plastics are in good shape, it's missing the choke cable and knob. Theres 50% of the three point link fitted, unfortunately the lift valve is missing ?!? A four tyres hold air but are very perished - one had a gallon of water left in ! The steering drag link is either bent or is on backwards as it has an odd bracket extending it around the tachomatic. ?!? We put fresh gas in stuck a small motorbike battery on and it started Very little smoke and it ticked over healthy, electric pto works fine too. So I'll be asking a few questions and favours perhaps over on the main forum... pics to follow. mark
neil 2,410 #8 Posted November 20, 2011 Congrats Mark on the gt14 You wont be dissapointed when you get that one all working well , I love my one . thet are great wheel horse tractors , one of the best they built i think IMO You got me curious now to know if my gt is a South Bend Tractor. gonna find a torch now to go and have a look I did think about bidding on it myself but i think it was too far to travel , besides she would kill me if i got another . Great purchase well done Anything you need to know just get in touch
meadowfield 2,756 #9 Posted November 20, 2011 cheers Neil, I've started another thread... I've LOTS of questions :dunno:
farmer 1,078 #10 Posted November 20, 2011 Sounds like your a happy bunny Mark, congratulations on your purchase . I've not seen a real live GT 14, is it much bigger than the 'standard' ? Maybe if you get a chance you could get a picture side by side? I look foward to following your restoration thread :wh:
meadowfield 2,756 #11 Posted November 20, 2011 with 4 flat tyres, it was immovable !!!! with the help of a fork truck it was lifted onto the trailer. re: size 48" wheelbase vs 45.5" 37" width vs 36" 850lbs vs 650lbs - probably more with the 3 point hitch !!! 27" rubber on 15" rim vs 23" rubber on 12" rims So not massive, but a lot more metal on it... think Raider 14 or C-140 auto on steroids.... cheers mark
MikesRJ 558 #12 Posted November 21, 2011 I'd have to say you peculated that one!

meadowfield 2,756 #14 Posted November 27, 2011 I was kind of hoping you could help me out! The 50% is the top link arm, hydraulics, long connecting rod. I'm after some dimensions for the CAT 0 lower link arms. thanks
