I did my 656 with 2 coats Rustoleum red oxide primer- then Rustoleum "Sunrise Red" -the wheels I did with Rustoleum "Antique White". Paint was inexpensive at Wal-mart. Rustoleum gives good protection-but it tales 3-4 days to dry.

The "correct" color is sometimes called "linen", sometimes "beige", but is essentially an antique, or off-white color. There are several listed in Massey's link that are close enough. Using any of the recommended paints, and you sit ten machines next to one another, you'll never see the difference.

I did mine out of rattle cans as well. Rusty red primer and grey sand-able primer (both Rust-Oleum) under Valspar Restoration Series IH Red. Rims and Seat were done with Sherwin-Williams Antique White. All of these paints are listed in Massey's link.

Canvas White from Rustoleum is also an off white that is close to the linen beige of old.

Rust-Oleum 7789830 Stops Rust, 12 oz. Spray, Gloss Canvas White

:dunno: Thank you to everyone that replied. Now I just have to decide from Massey list, which white to use.

I used Rustoleum Regal Red on my B-80 (sorry no pictures yet) and it came out great . still gotta wet sand a little. I know some of the mid 70's WH look like they have a sort of red with a hint of orange? but my 77 B-80 looks a deep shade of red the day my Dad brought it homr. some previous posters have stated Red is a tough to mix /expensive color and that whatever they mixed up at the factory was what they sprayed that day and it could vary in shade day to day.

:wh: Don on the red paint. I am thinking about using Toro Apple Red. When ever I spray a bright color. I use an old trick, that a ole time bodyman/painter used, white primer. He stated that the natural light pentrates the color and reflects back making the color brighter and by golly is does. Thank you for your reply. :dunno:
