can whlvr 994 #1 Posted October 30, 2011 so i got a beat up thrower with my c160-8,got it for free really, the shell is in really good shape but the auger is really worn on the outer rim of it,has anyone attached rubber to the auger with sucess, its that or spend alot of time welding it,dont think it would be worth it to weld the whole outer edge to add 1/4-1/2nch,ive seen these rubbers for 2 stages, but i could get some old conveyor belt and some small bolts with lock nuts and red thread locker might work?this is smaller than my others,it appears to be a 30 inch, might not even bother if its not feasable
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted October 30, 2011 Once the inside of the auger housing ("wrapper" - as it is sometimes called) builds up with coating of snow, the extra clearance won't matter. What you will have to address is the very last 1/2 turn or so of the auger flights and the flat area at the very center of the auger. If you build that area up, the snow will have no choice but to leave the chute. Forward motion, along with a good cutting edge (scraper bar) will load the auger and the snow will still be carried to the center. You just need to make sure it can get out.
