C-120 Clutch won't stop drive belt

Rebuilt the motor an thought the 30+ y.o. belt could use a replacement. Got the Gates #6982 that a cross reference chart said was the one for a WH #7473. Now, pushing the clutch pedal down won't stop the drive belt and the gears clash when I try to engage. Put some soap on the belt and still no good. Any ideas? Oh, and I threw out the old belt -- DOH!!

Nope. That's a 30 min knuckle buster. The cover is part of the "stop" mechanism?

Yes the belt guard has to be on the tractor for the clutch to work right

Darn you guys are good. Just came in from the shop and I see what you mean. Tried to slap it on but... can you explain the physics behind the fact that a small bolt dropped from 18" onto a swept shop floor can travel 12+ feet and hide?

BTW, I'll be updating the "What killed my Kohler" thread with my new theory.

Take it you got it working and those bolts can travel especially when you're trying to get a job done :dunno:

The distance any dropped part traveles is approximately equal too the importance of the part multiplied by the sum of how many hours the parts store has been closed and how far away it is, multiplied by the price of the part, divided by the availability of the part....

So lets say you drop a common bolt that holds an un-needed clamp, midday and you have a hardware store a block from the shop.

Giving ratings of 1-10 for availability and importance.

Importance= 1

Closing time = 0...(they are open)

Distance=1

Price=.35

Availability=10

The formula would look like this :

(1*(0+1)*.35)/10=.035

As you can see...this bolt won't even bounce...unless it is back into your hand!

However, if this is was an extremely expensive and hard to find special order from that one Shop 4 towns over...And you dropped it at 3 AM??

Importance=10

Closing Time = 10

Distance = 45

Price, $150

Availability=1

Now were looking at

(10*(10+45)*150)/1=82,500

Call out the hounds! This piece barely left a scent!

And now you know why the pro's that own the nice shops and stock alot of parts never lose anything...it has nothing to do with talent...they just play the odds better!

Now I understand why the flywheel nut for my 1976 Bultaco has been MIA for 5 years.

3 Hours from thread start to finish. Amazing and thanks again. Covers on. All is well. Now for some supper.

this is a touchy subject but for best results use oem drive belts,yes you need the gaurd on but oem belts in my opinion work much better,i know some use other brands,they never worked as good for me as an original
