hummod 0 #1 Posted October 24, 2011 I picked up this 701 on Saturday. It seems pretty complete with only a few wrong parts. I really like the headlights. I don't know if they are Wheel Horse parts or not. Another view And another I am going to get a lot of practice with the mig welder to fix this. Why would anyone do this. I really don't think there would be much additional cooling. Larry Sayre, Pa.
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted October 24, 2011 These 701's are getting harder to find, and with the double belt guard still on them!! you did good, another member here has a 701 and the hood looks the same way, I see zero added cooling. The blade is a early one with the cross braces. I maybe picking up another pretty nice 701 tomorrow night, "crossed fingers smilie", we need one of them. VinsRJ 723 #3 Posted October 24, 2011 Nice score! As Kelly said...... My RAT's 701 Hood was drilled the same way..... :dunno:
hummod 0 #4 Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks for the words of encouragment. Good thing I have a parts 701. The frame has been welded about a dozen times where the transmission mounts and the bottom of the hood stand has been cut open for shifter access. No spare hoods or belt guards though. tractor has two glass sediment bowls, one on tank and one on side of carb. It should be fun challenge to restore this one. The holes are smaller and the rows are nice and straight. Considering how hard it will be to fix it or replace a hood down here, it may stay just like it is. HorseFixer 2,013 #9 Posted October 25, 2011 Why would anyone do this. I really don't think there would be much additional cooling. Larry Sayre, Pa. Yeah tell me about it. Whoever does this crap should go see the Wizard of Ozz and get a Brain. Heres mine. Luckily I have another hood. By the way yer holes look more uniform and are much nicer! I give it a 10+++++
hummod 0 #10 Posted October 25, 2011 I will probably trim around the holes left then right and cut a patch to fill it. Unless I happen to find a hood. I have two other 701s and can put this one on the back burner for a while. Probably get it running and store it away until later. I should have lots of time soon with a impending layoff (Dec 29th). I may need to "thin the herd" a little to provide finances to work on them. Larry
aeallison 1 #11 Posted November 1, 2011 Grats on your addition, I am hoping to make a find like that myself someday. I really want to restore my 312 but I use it all year around. My hope is to find another one that runs as good as it does so I can put it under the knife.
