520H Oil Pressure Light

Recommended Posts

mattd860

The oil pressure light on my 520h has blinked since I got the tractor. I just changed the oil/filter, verified there are no leaks, and examined the motor. How can I tell if the oil pressure switch is bad or I really do have low oil pressure?

What would cause low oil pressure if there are no leaks and the dipstick tube is not open???

Think I recall something about this. What is the model and serial number of your tractor?

Here you go. (URL from September for a blinking Oil Pressure Lamp on a 520).

I am fairly sure this is the post mentioned above that no longer exists at that location. Just trying to help with the board's transition to its new home. :wh:

Here is the updated link: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=31437

If this is not the right link all I can say is I tried. :dunno:

The biggest problem with checking the oil pressure sending unit is that you have to remove engine covers to get at it. It is just above the starter and there are different sending units for different years. It could be just a connector problem with the light but that's doubtful. You can hook a regular oil guage after you get to that sender to check oil pressure.

Seems to me you are going to need to do a tear down with that oil problem. But I can understand your predicament as I ran one last summer that was using about a quart of oil to a tank of gas. Replaced it with another one had as a spare. An Onan overhaul gets pricey in a hurry with only one place to get parts. If you do have low oil pressure and throw a rod you won't like it.

No need to be sorry, aeallison. It's just fallout from the move to the new site.

I have a lot of links I kept in my bookmarks that I have to go back to and "fix". Once the site is better indexed, I'll do it. I just reposted my original link to the blinking oil pressure light because it delt better with the problem the poster was experiencing. :dunno:

Here's to my last "grinding" of the leaves later today on the 416 before I put it in hibernation! :wh:
