Snowblower maintenanac?

Recommended Posts

HankB

I just picked up a used single stage snow blower from another member. (model 6-1211) I'm wondering what I should be checking on it to get it ready for the upcoming snow season.

I need to look at the chute rotation as it seems a little sticky and doesn't get full travel.

The drive chain was pretty lose. I adjusted it and got most of the slack out of it. At what point should I be thinking about replacing it?

Are the bearings sealed or should I be lubricating them?

This one has the metal wheels with height adjustment. The PO has put a hose clamp on the lever to hold the pin in the hole. Is that a common problem with an easy fix or should I just let this sleeping dog lie. :thumbs2:

thanks,

hank

Hank the chain on my 44" 2 stage tall chute looked fine but it busted a Link last year. I went out to TSC and picked a new one, along with a chain tool and extra link thingys and I was surprised by counting the links how S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D the chain was  compared to the new one. :D You know as well as I do when these things go bad!!! :banghead:Answer: Christmas Day Family are comming over The Blower broke in the middle of the drive (snapped a chain) with 18" of snow still on the ground! :banghead: Things like that never fail to happen, So my vote is at minimum take the chain off it should have hardley no side flex or length slop. Most likely you will need a new one because of the age of equipment, and it will run much quiter! :thumbs2:
