IthacaJeff 151 #1 Posted October 16, 2011 WH'ers; Thought ya'll might enjoy a day in the mud. . . Last week I tilled under the garden, and planned to swap out the tiller for the snow blade yesterday. Before I did so, however, I thought I'd "try" a few things with the tiller first. So I headed to the garden with the tiller on the 310 and eventually found myself at the far end, sunk up to the rails. A classic case of the three "I's": Inattention, Impatience, and Idiocy. I was paying more attention to the tiller, forgetting that it rained the night before, and that the newly tilled soil had absorbed all the standing water. It took a son driving the 416, me on the 310, and about 90 feet of rope. I could not drive the 416 into the garden as it would surely have gotten stuck, especially without chains. Had another son take pics of the tow, but the battery on the camera failed. Jeff in Enfield NY
farmer 1,078 #2 Posted October 16, 2011 Whooaa Jeff, just a tad damp..what are you planting..rice? Also, hope you don't mind me asking, your assist spring looks, somehow at the wrong angle? :thumbs2:
IthacaJeff 151 #3 Posted October 16, 2011 Farmer: Yeah, a bit wet! But, it was the only area I was willing to till up, because I just needed a few minutes to try out some things. . .. took a whole lot longer than a few minutes in the end! The spring assist is at the wrong angle. The tiller never had one so I had to guess at the spring length and spring tension when I went to the hardware store to pick up a spring. It would not fit on the proper spot, so I just stuck it where it would fit. Hopefully by next spring I'll get the tiller functioning 100%. The frame needs a diagonal cross braceand the housing tin is cracked (both the way I got it), and a tine snapped off (BIG rock). Jeff
