Painted my Wheel weights and New receiver hitch

Recommended Posts

118lfd

Here are some pics of my Lead wheel weights I made. I used some body filler to level them out and Painted them Cast aluminum engine enamel cause it matches the silver exactly.

I weighed them and they weigh 75lbs each. I estimated them wrong when I built them as 90lbs each. I might fill the tires for more weight but they worked so good last year we'll see. I just ordered 2 link chains instead of the 4 links I had last year.

I rebuilt my receiver hitch cause I wanted it to be a little stronger. I used angle instead of the flat stock for the flange that bolts to the rear attach bracket.

I used a piece of angle to support the receiver.

Thanks, I plan on using the tractor to move my boat trailer around and pulling a small utility trailer. I also might make a weight bracket that attaches to the hitch.

I have plans to build a dump trailer using an electric linear actuator.

The boat is 24 foot and 6000lbs but I am not moving it with the tractor. I plan on using it to move the trailer empty. Its in my driveway and it is a pain to move with the truck.. once the boat is on is on the trailer it stays put. I think it woould handle it though cause the tongue weight is 500lbs. I will post dimensions in a little bit.

We fish all over but I think Michigan is a little too far a run. Besides I don't know how it would do in the sweetwater shes only seen salt. I laugh when guys here talk about fuel use between a 10 hp and a 20 hp motor. My boat has a 300 hp Chevy I built and installed. It cruises at 28 knots or roughly 30 mph for you land lubbers and burns 15 gallons an hour for right around 2 mpg. If its rough it goes down from there. On a typical day if we run for tuna we can burn 60 to 80 gallons and my boat is pretty fuel efficient. Plus I don't have the range to make the canyons off the coast 80 miles. Those guys can burn 200 gallons a trip or more :thumbs2:

Nice job on the hitch. :thumbs2: I like your remake better but I love the way you did the weights. Are they cast into a mould? If so I'm thinking you could do front wheel weights that way as well.

Yea the mold is a 12" cast iron skillet. I melted it down in the skillet and just made sure the skillet is level. I just kept adding lead till the skillet was full. Then let it cool. It slips right out. I then just skim coated the lead with bondo so I could smooth them out. You dont want to sand Lead!!!!!. Used a piece of aluminum to skim the slag off while the lead is molten. The best part is the taper of the skillet centers the weights and holds them in place. Lining up the bolts is tough but not too bad.

Here is how I made them.

Are you still able to use your bagger with the hitch? :banghead:

I can't really tell from the angle of the pics.
