Vinylguy 4,692 #1 Posted October 11, 2011 Brought her home tonight. Bought it site unseen. Has a Briggs 7HP and when we rolled it off the trailer we got her going and actually mowed a few rounds of the lot next to our shop. WOW!! way better tractor than I was expecting. All the tin is straight and just a little surface rust. Now I know I wont get a dang thing done at work tomorrow because I will be mowing. It has a battery tray and the owners manual and parts book are with it. I think it is a 1-2631 The original choke and throttle cables are with it too. Vinylguy 4,692 #5 Posted October 11, 2011 You did very well and the steering wheel looks mint! I was very surprised at the shape of the steering wheel. figured it would be bent a little bit. Need a seat too
Hammerhead 817 #6 Posted October 11, 2011 Good find on this little Ranger! That is a nice 1968 Lawn Ranger. Hard to find in this good original condition. It's the last year for the famed Round Hood design! Only year they had the 3 spoke steering wheel, decals on the side of the hood and those style of rear turf tires! Good deal for you! Vinylguy 4,692 #7 Posted October 11, 2011 Thanks Hammerhead. I feel like the day I got my drivers license. Cant wait till tomorrow to mow the whole lot. :thumbs2:

Sparky-(Admin) 23,282 #9 Posted October 11, 2011 That Briggs really fills the engine compartment dont it? I bet the spark plug is almost hittin the underside of the hood . Still better to have the Briggs over the Tecumseh tho. Nice find . Mike...........

littleredrider 409 #11 Posted October 11, 2011 It will fit but need to run a smaller battery, like out of a ATV or motorcycle. Starter overhangs into the battery box by a little, but enough to make the battery not fit....
kpinnc 14,709 #12 Posted October 11, 2011 Will a kohler with electric start fit in this tractor? I agree with Joe, and have done the same thing myself, using a modified battery box. A motorcycle battery has plenty of CCAs to turn that K181 over: lift valve and 8-speed optional.... Good luck Terry! :thumbs2:
COMMANDO6 20 #13 Posted October 11, 2011 Wow very nice. The belt configuration is odd on those. So how was the mowing today? Have fun? :thumbs2:
Vinylguy 4,692 #14 Posted October 12, 2011 Wow very nice. The belt configuration is odd on those. So how was the mowing today? Have fun? It mows awesome for a 43 year old tractor. Very level and I like the rear discharge. Thinking now is to freshen up and beef up the Briggs and find a snow blower for her. Tear down and paint plus some custom powder coating. I even rode it up to the gas station to filler up cause I dont have a small gas can Yet!
