Looking for pictures of swept forward conversions

I am planning on converting my 417-8 front end to a 520H with gear reduction steering. I know there are many of you who have done this. Can you please post your pics here on ANY model conversion? Thanks- :thumbs2:

Although he's been MIA for a while, this is "dualwheels" Norm's 416H:

I'd show a pic of my FEL tractor but I am 2,450 miles from home!

It's pretty ugly, but this is a short frame, 6 speed, K241 powered "mutt" I put a swept forward axle on.

I intended to put an FEL on this one, but when you run the big loaders at work....putting one on a GT seems kinda lame. :thumbs2:

So it's become my go to grader, cart, roller pulling GT.

I too am interested in this info. At one time, I was thinking about putting a swept forward front axle on my Bronco 14, ditching the fixed-length tie-rods and making some new adjustable ones, but leaving the factory steering set-up (not doing the gear reduction).

Would this work?

It may, the steering throw may be off though because of the design of the lower steering shaft.

The factory lower steering shaft on both the gear reduction & non gear reduction 520's has an odd shape.

They set further down & are wider where the tie rods are...probably to accommadate the heavy duty greasable tie rod ends.

My short frame still has the factory lower steering shaft.

I made an adapter plate of sorts that bolts in to the stock tie rod mounts on the lower steering shaft & copies the shape of the factory "WheelHorse" 520 lower steering shaft so I could use the 520 HD tie rods.

Also the 520 spindles & lower steering shaft are set up for the tapered tie rod ends.

So... In theory, it should work? Would I also need to use 520 spindles or would the factory Bronco ones work?

You will need the 520 spindles they are 1" then you will need the 520 wheels they use taper roller bearings, or you can use trailer hubs and bolt on wheels, I have built a adaptor to be able to use the stock lower steering shaft, it is fairly easy to make, then you can use the stock adjustable 520 tierods.

Why can't the Bronco spindles be used? Is the angle incorrect or something? Just seems like it would be easier to use the factory ones.

BTW, Sorry to hijack the thread Stevebo

Steve,

If you want, I can help you do the conversion tomorrow or later this week.

Holes in the swept axle are larger I believe so you have to use the swept axle spindles...

The axles are 1" on the 520, most the smaller tractors are 3/4".
