Wick in the oil dipstick tube???

Recommended Posts

Butch

I took the tube off my 314 and at the bottom was like a 3" length of rope that came in it. It was half in the tube and half out of the tube. The strange thing is it didn't interfere with the dipstick.

So can someone explain why it would be in there? :thumbs2:

Thanks

Probably tube was loose in the block and that was "Bubbas" way of 'tightening' it up --

Maybe Bubba was old school. Before there was teflon tape plumbers used wicking (lamp string) with pipe dope to seal threads.

I think he is saying it was inside the tube. How was it attached or was it just stuck inside the tube?
