CRE1992 135 #1 Posted October 9, 2011 I have a 1992 onan p220 off a 520H, and I have friend with a 1989 520H, and it connecting rod broke. He wants my engine for parts, are they interchangeable? Please advise. Thanks, Charles
546cowboy 302 #2 Posted October 9, 2011 I have not owned a 1992 and don't believe they are different. If you are talking about swapping the rod from yours to his, I personally wouldn't. There were two different rods. An old style and a new style and you can run into a problem of engine balance. Even if they are the same, it probably wouldn't stay together long. If you are talking about swapping the whole engine it will work fine. The only difference may be the oil pressure sending unit and that may cause the oil light to blink like you don't have oil pressure. I have swapped three engines in 520's and that was the only problem I ran into.
JackC 617 #3 Posted October 9, 2011 They should be basically the same engine. The spec numbers are probably different and you would need to look at the parts diagrams to see what the difference are if you plan to interchange parts.
