clintonnut 126 #1 Posted October 8, 2011 This morning I said goodbye to my 2nd wheel horse which was a restored RJ-58 and I also said goodbye to my 1054. Vince and Brian then brought me this beast from CT!!! Thanks UncleB0 and Stevebo!!! It is a mid-1980s 520HC with a 60" deck. I checked the fluids and did a little tune up and went out and mowed the grass! This tractor is SOOO much better for mowing than the D-250. My 1277 started my hydro tractor fetish for mowing and this 520 has an excellent power/weight ratio and not to mention the turning radius and the quality of the cut the deck makes. What would usually take me 2 passes in some places took me one pass and to mow 2 acres took me 45 mins and with the D-250 took me a an hour and 45 mins. I also really like the ease of steering and all controls at my hands. It is also better than the D-250 on gas! Imagine that! I should have bought a 520 a LONG time ago!!!! Nothing like mowing grass at 8mph and listening to the powerful hum of an ONAN!!! I absolutely love everything about this tractor. I just need to finish my mower casters (getting rid of the skids), fix throttle control so it doesn't slip as I mow and drop the RPMS and then install a spinner/suicide knob on the steering wheel. That is a really nice looking mid 80's 520 though. It does have the gear reduction steering. I just noticed it has later console side decals. You think it is a later 520-H with maroon stripe decals?
