spark949 24 #1 Posted October 7, 2011 I adjusted my brakes but it still seems as if the bolt is too long as the spring is still loose. There is no lower spring either, which leads me to believe th PO "fixed" it. Just wondering the length of the bolt and maybe if I can imposed on someones good nature, a pic too. The grainy pics in the owners manual are a little lacking in clarity. Thanks Fred
spark949 24 #2 Posted October 8, 2011 Alright im offering beers to the guy thaat gets down on his knees and looks under the left tire, measures the bolt and maybe take a picture. But you'll have to come here to drink them. But if you can't drink with me, could you look for me? Thanks
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted October 8, 2011 Feel free to keep your beer. Not the easiest thing to do, but I got a measurement and a few pictures. The bolt appears to be 4.75" long and here are the best pics I could take without tearing my tractors apart: You will need the bottom spring for the brake to work correctly. I had problems with mine which is why the springs look a bit stretched. Does your manual have the actual adjustment instructions?
spark949 24 #4 Posted October 9, 2011 You guys are the best. I'll measure mine again in the morning I see that the bolt does extend through an show like it's long on yours too. My manual says to sock it down, compress the spring and then back it off half a turn. I've tights en it up til it bottomed out on the threads but the spring is stll loose. Ill pull it apart in the am and start from the beginning again. Thanks again. Beers for all if you're around. I'm watching the grandiose now and I'll have to wait til they're in bed before I have mine. I did slot of wood splitting today and really need one or two. TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted October 9, 2011 It's been a while since I adjusted one, but I know you set the brake lock in the first notch, then tighten the nut/bolt until the spring (on the bolt) is snug. I usually keep trying it from there and adjust until it works correctly. How's the brake lining on your tractor?

I usually keep trying it from there and adjust until it works correctly. How's the brake lining on your tractor? The lining is still in good shape lots of miles left on it. I did notice the bolt on yours was treaded to within an inch or so of the hex head. Mine is only threaded down about an 1 1/4. I'm going over this machine fixing all the "fixes" the PO did. The brake lining was half off when I first checked it. All the pins that held it on were gone and it was being held in place Only by the tension. I'm lucky it didn't fall apart.
