OhioTractorGuy 0 #1 Posted October 6, 2011 Considering a C105, but not sure on the parts availability for a "daily driver" type of tractor. Any opinions on these units? :thumbs2:
C-Series14 15 #2 Posted October 6, 2011 Have had C-Series for more than 15 years and have not had a problem with parts...actually, never really needed to replace many broken parts, mainly small stuff when restoring them.
tunahead72 2,519 #3 Posted October 6, 2011 I only have two Wheel Horses at this point, and probably always will. One's a 1981 C-105, the other a 1986 310-8. Very similar machines, both with Kohler K241 engines, 8-speed trans. and 42" side discharge decks, and I love 'em both. I have to say this quietly, since my 310-8 is right outside in the shed , but if I had to get rid of one of them, the C-105 would be the keeper, partly because it's just in better overall condition, but also because I like the overall design just a little better. The upper steering shaft bushing area is a little beefier, not a big deal but nice. I don't have a real strong opinion one way or the other on the C-series rubber-mounted engine cradle, it is what it is and works fine. The only thing I don't like much on the C-series is the plastic fender, but I hear they can be replaced with comparable metal fenders if the plastic gets damaged beyond repair (mine's OK for now, after 30 years!). I've never had any real problem getting parts for either of these machines. Kohler parts are generally pretty easy to find, likewise most of the Toro regular maintenance and wear parts. You'll hear from others that new Toro parts are getting harder to find as Toro stops producing them, but that's probably true for any Wheel Horse product. Make sure whatever attachments you're looking at are in good shape. Good used mower deck shells are sometimes hard to find and can be expensive, but parts to rebuild them are available and generally not too pricey. And anything you just can't seem to find anywhere else, ask here on RedSquare, I'm always amazed at what some of these guys can find in their collections! You do know you can get manuals for these machines, right? Highly recommended. Is there anything about this particular C-105 that you're wondering about? Good luck! rmaynard 15,938 #4 Posted October 6, 2011 Any opinions on these units? The 10 HP K241AS is a strong engine. The transmission (103916) is one of the strongest ones out there, with the 8 pinion differential and 1-1/8" axles.
bgrizzle 0 #5 Posted October 6, 2011 I have a c105 the new part are still avalible from kohler and there are plenty of used parts out thier. :thumbs2:
OhioTractorGuy 0 #6 Posted October 6, 2011 Thanks for the endorsements on the C105. There are 2 for sale in my area, both with decks, but nothing else (snowblower, etc.). They are in the low to mid $600's, is that about right? Second, anyone have experience running a snow blower with these? I'd like to eventually do this with whatever I end up with. Lastly, how do these compare to a B-100 (I think they have the same 1- hp motor.) Reason I ask is there is also one of these near by. Thanks, Jim

rjr 0 #9 Posted October 18, 2011 I had a C-101 with a 42" deck. $300.00 on Ebay. My "new" one is a C121. Also around $300.00 on Ebay 36" rusted deck. Neither were in great shape. But, both ran with no smoke. Both 8 speeds. I would not recommend plowing snow with them. Between my 3 brothers and I we tore the transaxel off a 1045 when we were teenagers. Blowing snow last winter was tough on the C101. Along the sidewalk the snow was packed hard by the street plows. It took the weight of two of my neighbors and myself to get through it. I bought some wheel weights for this year. As tough as it was, it beats a walk behind single stage snow blower. I would recommend a C-101 without reservation for less than 12" of reasonably light snow . I think your price is a little high unless it is in very good shape. Any rust through on the deck would justify a reduction. Watch the bends in the deck sheet, metal, especially where it bends down in front and end. Grass collects there. Also along the welds. Can't help with the B series, but if it's similar to the old short frame tractors you would not have a problem
